Starry Starry Night: A McMurdo Fashion Show

There is something brilliant and amazing about an isolated community. Ideas are shared, costumes envisioned, and viola! A new Antarctic Trend is set.

When faced with the reality of ECW Gear: Big Red, Gaitors and Googles, fashion takes a back seat. As the stars come out and the Station Store reveals the latest clothing styles available for those who simply cannot go another day without shopping, the Galley is transformed from Mess Hall to Runway for the first ever fashion show.

The Fashion Show idea was the genius of Keri N e l s o n, who currently manages the Station Store. She wanted a way to show people what new items (from water bottles to hats and t-shirts to koozies) would be making an appearance in the store before Winfly (August).

What started as a simple display vision turned into a mega production purely on the blood and sweat of volunteers. There were lighting engineers, television broadcasting technicians, models, stage crew and of course an art department. I was beyond flattered when Keri asked me to be the Art Director. With the help of the recreation department, countless volunteer hours and an amazing group of individuals, a truly phenomenal evening will not soon be forgotten.

As part of the event, Karen H a g e r m a n and Nathan M u r p h y worked on creating a Designer biography for "McMurdo Station." This incredible video is the result of their endeavors:
