Slowly, the sun exits. Because of the particular angle and our location on the bottom of the globe, what little daylight we have left from about 11a.m. to 1p.m. is one long sunrise and sunset.
It's almost as if we've gone out of orbit and have begun to travel further out in space, away from the warmth of our favorite star.
In the absence of civilization, tall buildings and traffic, there is so much sky. So much open space; our thoughts escape us, the clouds stretch all the way across this great expanse and reach for the sun as we prepare to face ourselves.
We who will too soon become better friends with our shadows.
